Description

This expedition will offer This expedition will offer 14 adolescents aged 14 to 18 who are in remission from cancer the opportunity to experience an extraordinary summer adventure alongside a group of peers from across the country.

The group will be welcomed in the city of Montreal. We will then travel by bus to Bryson, in the Outaouais region, where we will meet our guides. Later that afternoon, we will head out to practice our first paddle strokes on calm water. We will spend the night in a cabin at Momentum Rafting, then depart the following day for our put-in and the official start of the expedition.

Over the next eight days, we will travel through calm sections of the river, run Class I and II rapids, and at times portage or line our canoes to get through certain passages. Each stage will be a challenge to take on together, as a team. On the final day, we will return to the same cabin where we spent our first night, then head back to Montreal the following morning.

Expedition Members

On each expedition team, there are two adventure facilitators whose role is to ensure the smooth running of all the activities. They are supported by a medical team – composed of a doctor, a nurse and a psychosocial professional – whose shared mission is to ensure the good health of all members of the expedition. In addition to these experts, our team includes professional guides with extensive knowledge of the area covered by the expedition, and a photographer-blogger responsible for capturing every moment of this great adventure in words and images.

Geography and History

A wild river

The Coulonge River flows through a vast landscape of dense forest and impressive rock faces. With its many waterfalls, it offers a true sense of wonder and remoteness, far from roads and cities.

A land shaped by history

Long before the arrival of settlers, the Anishinaabeg traveled this river, which served as a route of travel and a link between territories. Later on, the Coulonge was also used to transport timber during the era of the log drivers.
