Our first morning camping along the river, we wake up to the gentle voices of Eve-Marie, Catherine, and Loïs. After a quick breakfast, we begin taking down our campsite.
Once everyone is ready, we take a moment to look at the maps. Jessika explains the details of our route for the day.
We’re finally ready to get on the water, but first, a challenge awaits us! We have to carry our gear and canoes down a fairly narrow slope. We decide to form a human chain. Teamwork and mutual support are in full force—mission accomplished!
The weather is beautiful, and so is the river. We have the wind at our backs, the current is fast, and we’re moving along with ease. All the participants are practising their canoeing techniques. They’re learning quickly!
For our lunch break, we stop at a new site. We can already feel the group dynamic taking shape and connections beginning to form. We discover and talk about the insects we see and the environment around us. The conversations are enriching.
Among all the beautiful things we saw in nature today, there was this butterfly. It was curious, open, colourful, and peaceful. It reminds me of our group. I think it’s beautiful.
We slowly make our way back along the blue route. Nature is calm. We stop to take it all in and listen to the silence. Everyone relaxes. It’s one of our collective highlights of the day. It feels good to be here, to be together. We feel good.
We finish the last few kilometres and eventually reach the portage leading to our campsite for the night. Marshall is proud of himself, and so are the rest of us.
Time for our second challenge of the day! The barrels are heavy, and everyone encourages one another. Loïs, Samy, and Joël portage their first canoes!
Our campsite tonight is amazing! We can hear the falls, see the sky, enjoy a beautiful view, and we even have an ergonomic kitchen area (the outdoor version, of course). Before settling in for the evening, we take a moment on the rocks and by the water.
Tonight, we begin dividing up the tasks by team. Everyone contributes in their own way.
I’m sitting by the fire. We’ve just finished a sharing circle about how much we appreciated our day. Our average score is very good (I’d say 8.5 out of 10) 😉!
