This morning, we wake up at Rafting Momentum. We take the time to enjoy a delicious breakfast by the fire: croissants, bread, fruit, yogurt, coffee, herbal tea, and plenty of other delicious food.

As we embrace a nomadic lifestyle for the next few days, we spend the morning sorting through our gear, packing our bags, and organizing the equipment we’ll need during the expedition. It’s an important moment, and we take it very seriously. Every barrel is checked and double-checked to make sure nothing is forgotten and that everyone has what they need.

Once everyone’s personal bags are packed, we prepare the trailers and canoes. It’s time to head toward the river. Everyone seems very excited, especially our guides.

The beginning of the drive is peaceful, and the conversations are meaningful. In the vehicle I’m riding in, we talk about the impact of treatment on how we see life and our careers, and how illness can also inspire certain life choices. Samy shares how important it is for him to stay positive and optimistic. Joël tells us that, for him, it’s a matter of acceptance, going with what happens in our lives, and taking action.

Meanwhile, the girls behind me (Adeline, Mya, and Elisabeth) share parts of their stories with one another. I listen carefully to everything I hear. Each conversation feels like a little nugget of gold, filled with wisdom and lessons.

The conversations gradually give way to games, laughter, and fun.

We continue on our way to Domaine du Lac Bryson, where we make a short stop. The drive is longer than expected, so the break feels good. The place is beautiful, and everyone takes the opportunity to enjoy a moment in the present. For some, it means using the bathroom one last time; for others, it means having fun in the sun; and for some, it means treating themselves to a little something sweet.

After a few final minutes on the road, we FINALLY arrive on the banks of the Coulonge River, where we truly feel like we’re in the wilderness.

We end the day with a stretching session, a quick swim, and setting up our campsite for the night!

We manage to set up camp just before the rain begins. Tonight, after our delicious taco dinner under the tarp, we’ll fall asleep to the gentle sound of rain on our tents.

Thank you for reading and following our journey!

See you tomorrow!
