Description
This expedition will offer 14 young adults aged 30 to 39 in cancer remission the chance to experience an extraordinary winter adventure with a group of peers from across the country.
A WILDERNESS TERRITORY
The winter landscape of Portage Valley bringstogether forests, mountains, and a frozen river inone vast and majestic setting. The Portage Riverwinds its way for nearly 27 km, flowing pastwaterfalls and cliffs before joining the Petit-Saguenay River.
LONG BEFORE US
The Bas-Saguenay region is part of Nutshimit, theancestral territory of the Innu people. Rivers andportage routes served as important travelcorridors, particularly for hunting and fishing. InPetit-Saguenay, the Innu presence long predatesthe arrival of settlers and the logging industrythat later shaped the landscape.
OUR ADVENTURE… ON SKIS OR ON FOOT!
During the expedition, we’ll cover 3 to 10 km perday, travelling by ski-hok, winter boots,crampons, or snowshoes, depending on theconditions. We’ll sleep primarily in wood-heatedprospector tents. We’ll carry the essentials on ourbacks, while heavier equipment will betransported by snowmobiles.
Expedition specific physical criteria :
• Be able to hike with ski-hok (no experience required), snowshoes or crampons for 4-6 hours per day.
• Be able to carry a backpack of about 15-20 lbs during the hike.
• Not have Raynaud’s syndrome (exceptions discussed on a case-by-case basis).
• Be comfortable sleeping in a shared space with several people, with a wood stove as the only source of heat (prospector tent).
• Love winter, snow and be able to tolerate the cold.

Expedition Members
On each expedition team there are two adventure facilitators whose role is to ensure the smooth running of all the activities. They are supported by a medical team – composed of a doctor, a nurse and a psychosocial worker – whose shared mission is to ensure the good health of all members of the expedition. In addition to these experts, each team includes professional guides with extensive knowledge as well as the area covered by the expedition, and a blogger responsible for capturing every moment of this great adventure in words and images.

Schedule
DAY 0
Flights or transportation for participants coming from outside of the province or outside Quebec City. Night at a hotel near Jean Lesage Airport (in Quebec City).
Day 1
Arrival of the remaining group members. Departure from QC City to Petit-Saguenay. Night at Auberge du Jardin.
DAY 2
Equipment acclimatation, ski-hok practice, final
preparations, and night at Auberge du Jardin.
DAY 3 TO 6
EXPEDITION — Travel through the Portage Valley, 4 nights in wood-heated prospector tents, 2 different campsites.
DAY 7
Expedition outing, surprise activity, equipment return, and final night at Auberge du Jardin.
DAY 8
Travel from Petit-Saguenay back to Quebec City.
Return home for everyone.
