57 - Expédition Évasion Automne 2019 Réservoir Poisson Blanc, QC

All together to be stronger. The feeling of no longer being isolated with the weight of everyday life comes with sharing an adventure. In the bus already, glimpses of friendly complicity meet, laughter bursts. Newly arrived at the base camp “Air Eau Bois”, we cannot wait to explore the place, there is a bustling excitement. A little apprehension too. We don’t know what to expect. As soon as the luggage is dropped off, the canoes are tested. Although the sun has given us confidence, heavy rain surprises us long enough on the water to make us well aware that Mother Nature is the boss and that we must be ready for anything! Let it be known!

Already, some participants stand out, in their show of kindness, cordiality or clowning. Carlos leads the joke race, immediately followed by Naimo.

With our stomachs full, filled with salads, vegetable soup, hamburgers steaks and chocolate cake, we gather at the shelter to talk about our personal challenges and our expectations for the weekend. We understand that the sharing moments will be enlightening, peaceful and that our secrets will be neither judged nor betrayed. It feels good.

As a blogger and journalist, I leave room for speakers and participants and I feel privileged to be among them. But the expedition is still stirring some emotions in my heart since I, too, less than 10 years ago, I was fighting tumours with chemo and surgery. Such an expedition would have had a major impact on my isolation and healing. While today my health is good, I’m so happy to be here. There are examples of extraordinary courage and human power among these young adults with inspiring life stories.

Facilitators are dynamic and positive. The beauties of the wilderness that surround us are energizing. The whole is a mix which can only result in a wonderful stay. Rain or not, it will be perfect. The goal is to succeed in a challenge that will make us say, “If I am able to accomplish this challenge, I can now do it all!”

Tomorrow, we will get up at dawn for the real and unforgettable adventure that will begin!
