Description

This expedition will offer to 14 young adults in remission of a cancer the chance to go on a winter expedition somewhere with a lot of snow and where there is plenty of outdoor activity.

***COVID-19***

In order to pursue our mission with young people living with cancer while adapting to the pandemic context, the On the Tip of the Toes Foundation has put in place measures to prevent infection to COVID-19. These are based on the recommendations from the medical advisory committee from the foundation and the public health institutions in Quebec.

Since December 2022, the On the Tip of the Toes Foundation strongly recommends basic vaccination for all participants, employees, volunteers, and collaborators on the expeditions, considering their age and their health situation.

During the winter 2023, On the Tip of the Toes foundation organize it’s expedition to La Seigneurie du Triton, one of the most prestigious outfitters in North America. Its vast territory of nearly 50km2 cut off from civilization and accessible only by boat in summer and by snowmobile in winter will allow us to live an exotic and rejuvenating winter experience.

We will gather in Montreal to reach our destination : the municipality of Lac Edouard. This place will be the real start for our adventure. The Triton team will welcome us and take us by snowmobile to our place of stay. This snowmobile ride will allow us to begin to discover this territory which will be our playground for the week.

On our arrival we will make ourselves comfortable in the Auberge le Batiscan which will be our base camp for the week. All members of the expedition will share a room with one or two expedition partner. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom. This Inn will offer us comfort and warmth between our getaways outside.

During the first 2 days, we will do day trips to take the time to acclimatize to the conditions and learn certain techniques for living and surviving in a natural winter environment. We will then pack our bags and leave for a 3-day winter camping expedition. During this expedition, we will change campsite every day, sleep in tents and cook our meals outside. Then, we will return to the comfort of the Auberge du Batiscan for one last night. At the end of the stay, the Triton team will drive us by snowmobile to Lac Edouard from where we will take a bus back to Montreal and then back home.

Expedition Members

On each expedition team there are two adventure facilitators whose role is to ensure the smooth running of all the activities. They are supported by a medical team – composed of a doctor, an oncology pivot nurse and a psychosocial worker – whose shared mission is to ensure the good health of all members of the expedition. In addition to these experts, each team includes professional guides with extensive knowledge of the activity as well as the area covered by the expedition, and a blogger responsible for capturing every moment of this great adventure in words and images.

Geography and History

The Seigneurie du Triton is a hunting and fishing outfitter located in the municipality of Lake Edouard, in the administrative region of Mauricie, in Quebec. The outfitter has exclusive rights to 50 square kilometres of wilderness and is a private enterprise accessible only by water.

The origin of La Seigneurie du Triton dates back to the 1870s, when Quebec and Chicoutimi were first linked by a railroad. Alexander Luders Light, a railroad engineer, was the father of the Triton Fish and Game Club, which he founded in 1893. In doing so, he opened up a territory counting no fewer than 200 lakes.

The early part of the 20th century was the golden age of the Triton Fish and Game Club. In this period, the Club hosted prominent political figures such as US Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Harry Truman, the former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, some members of the Rockefeller and Molson families, and many others.
