This morning we wake up before the sun rises, because in autumn it rises late. The last day of the expedition is traditionally a day for getting up early, as some participants have flights to catch from Montreal airport.

The magnificent sunrise is accompanied by bagels toasted on the fire, granola yoghurt and a calm lake over which a fine mist hangs. Some people definitely wish they’d stayed longer…

Then it’s time for the classic volunteer-versus-participant canoe race from the tip of Natjelaime (NatIlooveher) to the camp. The team of volunteers is really having a rough time. The participants move along at top speed with an incredible coxswain at the back of their boat. Noémie performed like a pro, while the whole crew paddled enthusiastically. Victory to Participants over volunteers.

Once back at camp, the participants are asked to return the equipment loaned to them for the expedition to the facilitators, who valiantly tick off each item on a list.

Lunch awaits them in the cafeteria before they set off for Montreal with André, moved by all, He insists that the young people have time to say goodbye to the team members who won’t be travelling with them. It’s a moment he feels is important and precious.

On the bus, you can feel the general tiredness. After a short rest, each participant and volunteer receives their expedition merit badge, showing that they have proudly taken part in the Évasion expedition from 5 to 8 October 2024!

The group is introduced to what’s to come: the dissolution of a group that has just spent four indescribable days together. Incredible bonds have been forged. We’re no longer talking about strangers, but about a solid core. They will be supported for the rest of their stay, both in group meetings and individually.

When they arrived in Montreal, some of the parents were already there, happy and proud to welcome their smiling children. They were grateful for the expedition blog, which had enabled them to follow the adventure their youngsters were taking part in. At this point, it’s time to say goodbye to Artin, Maeve, Noémie, Antonin and Imam. Hari and Shauntai will be boarding the plane a little later this evening.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Marie-Michelle and Eve-Marie will be heading back to Chicoutimi. They’ll be unpacking and servicing their equipment so that it can be reused for a future expedition with the On the Tip of the Toes Foundation!
