What were your fears or your doubts when we offered your adolescent to take part in an expedition with us?

Yes. I was concerned he would feel uncomfortable and shy being with a group of kids he didn’t know. I was concerned it might be too emotional of an experience. I also was nervous that we couldn’t communicate via phone with him. We had to fully trust the leaders, experts and guides. My child was beaming with joy and confidence. He had bonded with the others and made true friendships. He wanted to stay longer with them all. Being away from his phone was a real positive.

Tell us about the reunion with your adolescent at the end of the expedition.

What benefits did you get from the experience with the foundation and/or what benefits do you think your adolescent took back from it?

He was so proud of the skills he acquired and enjoyed sharing and learning about other’s cancer experience. He said that this experience allowed him to come out of his shell and connect in an authentic way. He remains in contact with many of the others. For me, the webinar he took part in helped me have trust. I sat on the side listening. As a parent that was important.
