Although guided by two exceptional Marios and surrounded by volunteers of overflowing energy, the participants were eager to find the shore on this Sunday morning. The goal was close, could almost be grasped!
This morning, the departure preparations were more efficient, and the walkers’ pace of progression was impressive. You could feel between the ranks the frenzy of the next arrival, the return to civilization, comfort and warmth! Like sailors finally seeing the shore so close after several days at sea! The excitement was at its height.
However, we should not underestimate the last 8 km walk separating us from the finish line in Roberval. The Marios repeated to keep a slow pace, to take breaks for drinking and snacking, but we felt in the group an energy, a second breath, haste to get home fast! After almost 4 hours of walking, the explorers entered the Ice Village of Roberval, smiling, tired, but energized by the encouragement of the people present and by the arrival arch that could finally be seen in the distance.
After crossing the finish line, the 27 National Bank participants were able to drop bags and sleds. The emotion and pride in the air were palpable. Mario Bilodeau and Mario Cantin took the time to congratulate each walker and to thank them for their involvement. After a short speech, they were able to reveal the total amount raised by the participants of this first walk of the Double Défi des deux Marios’ 12th edition… $66,000! Which will directly finance this year’s next expeditions with groups of young people in the far north of Quebec.
None of this would be possible without the involvement and generosity of many people: the founders of Sur la Pointe des Pieds and the Double Défi, volunteers, participants and, of course, the donors. It’s so moving to see how, when people get together and put their whole heart and energy to a project, great things are possible.
This fundraising activity is a real boost encourage people to live their life to the fullest, to get involved, to be fully present because every minute of every day counts. And see how life is truly awesome.
