Information for researchers*
The On the Tip of the Toes Foundation recognizes the importance of research in understanding the issues facing young people with cancer, and in developing programs tailored to their needs, including Nature and Adventure Intervention (NAI) programs.
Every year, we receive numerous requests from researchers who would like to recruit people with cancer or their loved ones or participants in NAI projects through our network. Despite our willingness to support these requests, we are sensitive to the risks of over-solicitation. That’s why we’ve established a procedure for selecting the projects to share.
It’s important for us to share the information we gather with our team members and our community. When we ask the young people in our network and their loved ones to participate in a study, we also ask the research team to share with us in return any results or relevant information (in everyday language) that may improve the lives of people with cancer or their loved ones or contribute to the advancement of knowledge in NAI.
Project selection process
The On the Tip of the Toes Foundation has a five-step process for handling requests for assistance in recruiting participants for a research project.

- The research team must complete the recruitment assistance application form by one of the two deadlines identified below.
- Within two weeks of the form submission deadline, we’ll review applications and determine:
- whether they concern the clientele served by the foundation (youth aged 14 to 39 undergoing treatment or in remission from cancer) and/or their loved ones;
- whether their objectives are of a psychosocial nature
- whether they entail risks or could involve the Foundation’s liability
- whether the human resources involved are reasonable in view of the expected benefits
- Upon approval, we’ll confirm the details of the role(s) the Foundation accepts.
- The researcher will send a copy of the recruitment notice/poster/image with the application form. Typically, this information will be shared on the Foundation’s website and on the Foundation’s Alumni Facebook page. On rare occasions, an email may be sent.
- Within two months of the study’s completion, we ask that the researchers send us a summary of the results in everyday terms, which we then share with our team to improve our programs. These results may also be shared with the general public.
