Alas! Our wonderful adventure in Algonquin Park is coming to an end. This will be our last night in the forest. Time flies, doesn’t it?

Last night was very cold. We almost reached -35C. Yet, inside the tents, the temperature was more than adequate, and our top quality sleeping bags kept us warm.

How was the day?
Once again, super!

The morning routine was the same: breakfast, dishes, packing and loading the sleds, and harnessing the dogs before departing from “Craig Camp”.

At breakfast time, we were worried about Mother Nature. The thermometer showed -24C. But the sun was blazing. Since we started our adventure, the weather has been quite favourable. In record time, the temperature warmed up. In less than one hour, we had gained 15ºC and the average temperature of today’s run was around -8C.

Today’s run was a wide circuit, the “27 Loop”. Under ideal conditions, our group of twenty adventurers travelled along a quiet and rather level trail.

Yet, even quiet and level trails can lead to some “off trail” excursions. But these were more comical than dangerous!
We reached ‘South Camp’ around 3 PM for our last stop.

As this was to be our last night in the woods, our young companions were treated to some privileges.
Excused from most of their chores, they used their free time to watch the sun set on the lake. A great group experience!

The team leaders prepared the evening meal: good size steaks with pasta and cream sauce and veggies. And cheese cake for desert!

The leaders even took care of the dishes.

This allowed our young friends to spend time together to review the day’s activities and enjoy the last campfire of this adventure.

Tonight, we’re in a festive mood. Morale is good, the day was splendid and everyone is having fun. So let’s enjoy this last night outdoors in anticipation of the nice, comfy bed we’ll have!
