After a good day’s rest, the group was eager to get started early. With our batteries fully charged, the team plans to complete the longest section of our voyage, 25 kilometres. As our participants were now experienced, the organisers decided to designate canoeing teams made up of youngsters only so they could polish off their techniques. After a few adjustments, all teams were able to keep pace with the leaders.
As the river was swollen by the recent rainstorms, our canoeists kept a fast pace, and, in the absence of a suitable rest area, they decoded to have lunch on the water. We reached our campsite located on a small island on schedule and once the camp was set up, many participants decided to take advantage of their last evening on the river to go fishing. And they were right: five catches before supper and fifteen after, which guarantees a great meal tomorrow.
To mark Catherine’s birthday, the guides cooked up a delicious chocolate desert to everyone’s delight. What a nice way to spend this last evening of camping!
Tomorrow will mark the end of our travels on the Missinaibi River and we will spend the night at the hotel.
