Justen was diagnosed with Cancer as a young teenager. Thanks to the awesome team of Doctors at the MCH Oncology Department, he was cured. It was an extremely happy time for us all. Justen swore he was going to graduate high school on time, along with everyone else, and through his extreme hard work and perseverance, he did.

Everything was falling into place, except, I, his mom and best friend, could see he was off. He was happy, BUT still something was missing.

Then The Tip of The Toes Foundation, which works with the MCH, contacted Justen to be part of a sailing expedition. Well I think Justen had his bags packed a month ahead of time.

Skipping ahead, when Justen returned home after nine days away, he was just so happy. He lit up. The trip changed him emotionally for the better and also physically, he was stronger. The trip showed him other people who were going through the same mixed feelings as him. On the trip there were nurses, cooks and volunteers etc., who all contributed to a once in a lifetime experience. He visited new places and met new people. He came home ready to take on new challenges.

Through The Tip of The Toes Foundation, people dealing with Cancer or who have dealt with Cancer, are not alone. They come together, share their stories, bond and friendships are formed. Justen made friends that he stayed in contact with, till his passing.

These expeditions bring out the strengths and the positiveness of what lies ahead. And it works.

Please read my beautiful son’s Obituary to see his great achievements in his short 27 years.

Thank you so very much Tip of The Toes for helping my son become the beautiful man he was.

I,Joy, Justen’s Mother donated $5000.00 in Justen’s memory, because I know that Justen would have wanted to help another person be able to experience such an expedition, that is so life changing and positive.
