Participants to the 9th edition of the On the Tip of the Toes Foundation’s Double défi des deux Mario arrived at Village sur glace of Roberval under a glowing sun. Their relatives, as well as hundreds of spectators in awe of the challenge they fulfilled, were reserving them a warm welcome.
In all, 50 participants were accompanied by about twenty volunteers who have chosen to participate in this deeply human adventure that is the Double défi des deux Mario.
The two groups had to struggle throughout the adventure with very cold nights of around -35 degrees. As in the past, the wind and cold were constant, but for the first cohort who made the crossing from Roberval to Pointe-Taillon, the challenge was more difficult because on several occasions participants had to deal with slush. Their sodden boots and equipment becoming inefficient, morale of the troops was greatly affected. The team of the Tip of the Toes Foundation and the volunteers took charge of the situation and provided the participants the necessary equipment to complete the challenge successfully.
Because of this unique fundraising campaign, the Foundation raised $126,000 to enable it to provide young people with cancer with an opportunity to take part in therapeutic adventure expeditions for free.
Some participants in the Double défi are already in their sixth adventure on the ice. You are invited to contact the Tip of the Toes Foundation to register for the 10th edition of the Double défi des deux Mario to be held in February 2018.
