Ariane Martel Bouchard
2023
Legendary Adventurer
Hello! Allow me to introduce myself; I am Ariane Martel Bouchard aka La Coureuse Sauvage (the Wild Runner). Native of Saguenay, I am a fan of running and long distance walking! This crazy love story started very recently in the summer of 2021 when I made a 180 degree turn in my life. After a few years of drinking problems, I fought the battle and got sober. Also, following my values and my love for animals, I became a vegan. Believe me, this new way of life has given me A LOT of energy, so I have integrated sport into my daily life. I have always been an outdoor enthusiast who loved to spend long hours in the forest, so I decided to spend my new-found energy on long hikes in the mountains.
When I started trail running in the spring of 2022 and discovered that it combined my love of nature with my love of running, La Coureuse Sauvage was born! Being a passionate and intense woman, I pushed my limits little by little and started flirting with long distances. Despite the pain and difficulty that comes with doing ultras, I was able to find the best in myself, to shine and get back to basics. I love taking on new challenges and I am constantly looking for adventures to push my limits.
Currently, I am looking to the On the Tip of the Toes Foundation to give new meaning to all these kilometers traveled. The plight of sick children particularly affects me, and I like to think that I can make a difference in their lives by allowing them to live an extraordinary experience. Human beings should always have the chance to develop a special relationship with nature during an expedition, regardless of their state of health.
In March 2023, in order to support the foundation, I will complete the world’s first Everesting on snowshoes. This activity consists of climbing a mountain of the athlete’s choice as many times as necessary to reach an elevation gain equivalent to the altitude of Mount Everest (8848 meters) and this, without sleeping. If I succeed in my challenge, I will also be only the second woman in Quebec to achieve it on foot!
