We rose early in preparation for our departure from Air Eau Bois Camp on our rabaska expedition. After a hefty breakfast at the cafeteria, we spent a fair part of the morning packing our equipment. We then started paddling on the mirror-like reservoir. Obvious the “Great Totem” heard our prayers. The weather was mild under the wonderful fall sun as we were treated to the unbelievable spectacle of millions of leaves of every shade imaginable.

We sang as we paddled towards “Potato Island” where Virginie and Mario greeted us with a country-style lunch. Anthony took charge of lighting a fire much to the pleasure of the rest of our group. During the afternoon we continued on our trip, heading for the impressive Elephant rock wall dominating the shore of the lake.

Once at our new residence, the whole group got busy setting up camp. With collecting fire wood, setting up our Himalayan tent, preparing the meal, the place was hopping with activity. After a delicious meal around the campfire, we were ready for an evening of games and laughter that still resonates in my head. Soon, we’ll prepare for the night. A well-deserved rest for our courageous adventurers after a 10-kilometre paddling run, God knows how many paddle strokes. Tomorrow will be another day full of discoveries.
