10 - Grand Expedition Winter 2003 - Moose Factory, ON
Grand Expedition 10, On the Tip of the Toes’ first expedition to Moose Factory, changed my life. At the age of 15, and only a few months after the completion of treatment for recurrent Hodgkin Lymphoma, I had the blessing to participate in a 4-day winter adventure, crossing James Bay by skidoo at -40C!
It was nothing like I expected, I mean, as someone who was just recovering from debilitating therapies, I was suddenly told to put on various layers of thermal clothes and face a vast frigid ocean of white on a skidoo. An impossibility a few months back, now a reality, an exercise in fortitude, perseverance and faith. Faith in my body that not so long before seemed to have failed me. Faith that the expedition guides knew what they were doing and we were not going to get lost in the middle of the Bay. And faith in God and His purpose for my life. I didn’t know why, but God gave me another chance at life, and On the Tip of the Toes was so influential in my rebirth, showing me that I could trust myself again and that I was able to reach for the stars if I set my mind to it.
