Description

This expedition will offer to 4 teenagers from Quebec accompanied by 1 or 2 parents the chance to go on winter expedition somewhere with a lot of snow and where there is plenty of outdoor activity. The On the Tip of the Toes Foundation respects all public health instructions at all times and is extremely vigilant during these expeditions. To take part in this expedition, all participants, volunteers and guides must have received 3 doses of vaccine against COVID* and agree to respect the preventive measures that will be presented. * Exception: A doubly vaccinated teenager who did not have time to received his 3rd dose due to the delay could participate by taking additional preventive measures.

This winter, the On theTip of the Toes foundation is organizing a family expedition to La Seigneurie du Triton, one of the most prestigious outfitters in North America. Its vast territory of nearly 50km2 cut off from civilization and accessible only by boat in summer and by snowmobile in winter will allow us to live an exotic and rejuvenating winter experience.

Families will have to travel to La Tuque for our appointment set on the morning of February 25th, from there, we will organize a convoy to the municipality of Lac Edouard. This place will be the real start for our adventure. The Triton team will welcome us and take us by snowmobile to our place of stay. This approximately 10km snowmobile ride will allow us to begin to discover this territory which will be our playground for the week.

On our arrival we will make ourselves comfortable in the Auberge le Batiscan which will be our base camp for the week. All members of the expedition will share a double room with the members of his family. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom. This Inn will offer us comfort and warmth between our getaways outside.

Throughout the week we will explore the territory of the Triton by snowshoeing, ski hok and even dog sledding. One of our days will be devoted to build a winter camp: we will set up teepees and an outdoor kitchen and snow shelters. The next day, when our camp will be well established, we will return there with all our equipment and the food necessary for our 2 night stay in winter camping. During this stay, we will be accompanied by a specialist guide in survival who will teach us different techniques and who will share his knowledge of the natural environment with us. Then we will return to the Auberge le Batiscan for the last 2 nights. The last day of our stay will be spent on dog sleds in teams of two for a full day trip. At the end of the stay, the Triton team will take us back to our car by snowmobile and we will drive back home.

*Their is 11 spots for this expedition (4 teenagers accomapanied by one or two parents from Quebec)

** Sanitary measures will be put in place depending on the public health situation.

***The On the Tip of the Toes Foundation reserves the right to cancel this expedition depending on developments related to COVID-19.

In addition to these experts, each team includes professional guides with extensive knowledge of the activity as well as the area covered by the expedition, and a blogger responsible for capturing every moment of this great adventure in words and images.

Geography and History

The origin of La Seigneurie du Triton dates back to the 1870s, when Quebec and Chicoutimi were first linked by a railroad. Alexander Luders Light, a railroad engineer, was the father of the Triton Fish and Game Club, which he founded in 1893. In doing so, he opened up a territory counting no fewer than 200 lakes.

The early part of the 20th century was the golden age of the Triton Fish and Game Club. In this period, the Club hosted prominent political figures such as US Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Harry Truman, the former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, some members of the Rockefeller and Molson families, and many others.
